Synopsis and Treatment For our Animation
Synopsis & Treatment of our Animation Final Brief:
Synopsis: Our Animation is based on the lyrics and music for the song; East of Eden by Zella Day. The animation is aiming to be somewhat of an art film/short story, with strong and exciting imagery.
The subject matter is going to be of the main character Eden tackling her fears in the form of a dark tiger.
Treatment: The film will be created using hand drawn traditional animation sheet work, it will also utilise digital aspects to colour, edit and add more effects into the animation, mainly a lot of colour work for the background.
The style of the piece is going to be very simplistic and colourful, very inspired by books such as beautiful darkness that shows simple character design and dark themes coinciding with each other.
The structure of the film will be in rhythm with the instrumental of the songs soundtrack, slow in the beginning and somewhat fast paced when it comes to the chorus where the protagonist is tangling with the tiger. The animation drawings will be scanned and edited onto a green textured background digitally..
The sound of the film will be synchronised with the songs audio track with other overlays of sound effects such as a tigers roar and maybe a battle cry depending on who the scene is planned out.
Hopefully the storyboards will help us refine our process for the story and allow us to streamline the view of our work in progress.
The actual meaning of the piece will hopefully show how people can get over their fears, using metaphors from the short film. The girl is quite innocent and faced with a ferocious tiger, which is supposed to be a metaphor for problems that people encounter in life. The fight is showing how somebody can overcome fears and problems, the final scene shows the woman and the tiger kind of at zen with one another, which is ultimately conquering a problem in life.
Our target audience is a younger audience around 15-25, people who look toward animation and get more of a life lesson from them rather than an older generation. I think this younger audience actively look for messages within media and movies, this also reflects upon our stylistic approach a as this is whats used in relatively new medias on young networks like cartoons and anime.
The animation style we our aiming for is traditional frame by frame drawing with digital retouching in-between, to blacken up lines, add colours etc. As we our primarily illustration students I think where our strength will come across is within the quality of the drawing and visually communicating our ideas across to the viewer.
