Toga Coloured Designs

Image
We started out by colouring toga with simple block colours, using quick washes of water colour to give her some life through her colour. We purposely tried to stay away from green as our background will be a light green and didn't wanna have any visual issues when it came to deciphering whats happening. We then figured out a set colour palette for her, detailed below. My favourite part of toga, is her orange triangle nose, I think it really adds a sense of personality to her and gives her a unique likeness to perhaps people we know.

Tiger designs, coloured

Image
Here are some lined and colour versions of the tiger, the variation in line weight really gives the tiger a sense of dynamic feel as if it actually has some page presence. The colour has just been simply block coloured, whilst detailing highlights like his eyes and nose.

Tiger Character Design

Image
Here are some rough designs for the tiger, I kept him quite simple body wise, whilst drawing just thick logs for his legs and huge chunky paws I could draw him quicker. I worked out a pattern to draw his head quickly as shown below, working this out will allow me to draw him quicker over and over when doing frame by frame animation.

Toga Design for Animation

Image
Toga is the main protagonist of our animation, she is named Toga after the tiger which is tiger in japanese. She has gone through quite a design process of faces and body shaping. We decided to give toga a pair of baggy eastern trousers as a design choice, this would allow us to draw her bottom half quicker as to saving time on animating the legs individually.

Background design idea for animation

Image
Backgrounds The backgrounds for our frame by frame animation will be a water colour wash with just the animation movement layers playing above it. The wash will be bright green as I would like it to reflect the concept of eden and how it's quite a green garden like area the protagonist has found herself in. The blue is just to represent the watercolour and I have layered green squares over the blue on photoshop to show the final idea. The line art are just some quick sketches of thumbnails from the storyboard.

Storyboard For East Of Eden Animation.

Image
Here are the storyboard scans for our animation I've time stamped the thumbnails to roughly show often a cut is in the animation and how long a scene or motion is on for. It starts with her waking up and running down a corridor in this 'eden' place.  Cuts to a tiger stalking in the shadows She faces the tiger in a hallway and its eyes glare back The tiger jumps and leaps towards her Cuts to her looking shocked and then doing a combat roll out of the way Then the tiger pounces on her, she kicks him off She does a combat jump to recover, and then a flying kick towards to tiger The tiger is staggered and pushed away, as she breathes in They both run toward each other They collide in clashing hit, which fades to white Then cuts to her standing with an allied partner tiger

Synopsis and Treatment For our Animation

Synopsis & Treatment of our Animation Final Brief: Synopsis: Our Animation is based on the lyrics and music for the song; East of Eden by Zella Day. The animation is aiming to be somewhat of an art film/short story, with strong and exciting imagery.   The subject matter is going to be of the main character Eden tackling her fears in the form of a dark tiger. Treatment: The film will be created using hand drawn traditional animation sheet work, it will also utilise digital aspects to colour, edit and add more effects into the animation, mainly a lot of colour work for the background.   The style of the piece is going to be very simplistic and colourful, very inspired by books such as beautiful darkness that shows simple character design and dark themes coinciding with each other.   The structure of the film will be in rhythm with the instrumental of the songs soundtrack, slow in the beginning and somewhat fast paced when it com...
